With the NFL Draft now over and done with it’s time to start doing some research for the upcoming fantasy season.

Obviously, we are still months away from the start of the the NFL season but it’s never too early to start looking at some guys that may fall under the radar during your draft. Here are some players I have my eye on and some I’ll be avoiding. I’m leaving out QB’s because I’m a firm believer that nearly any starting QB can bring you good value.

Let’s talk running backs.

Last year there was “some” hype around the Arizona Cardinals 3rd round draft pick David Johnson, and after a few opportunities, he burst onto the scene after Chris Johnson went down with an injury.  Johnson is one of my top backs to target this year especially in PPR leagues.

One guy I’m staying away from is Demarco Murray. After a tumultuous season in Philadelphia, Murray was shipped off to Tennessee where many assumed he would be the lead back. That is until Tennessee drafted Derrick Henry, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner in the 2nd round.

The back I’m iffy on is Ezekiel Elliot. While all signs point to Elliot being the lead back in Dallas, he is going to be sharing it with veterans Alfred Morris and Darren McFadden. Elliot could be a superstar behind that offensive line, but I’m skeptical with the amount of talent in that backfield.

A sleeper pick at running back is second year back Ameer Abdullah. Abdullah made some plays last year, but wasn’t used to his full potential. Look for Detroit to get Abdullah as many touches as possible, both in the run and pass game.

On to the wide receivers.

Coming off a bad knee injury during training camp last year, Kelvin Benjamin seems poised for a big season. Imagine what that Panthers offense could have done with him as the #1 target instead of Ted Ginn Jr.

Another guy to keep your eye on is Detroit’s Golden Tate. With the departure of Megatron, Tate is now the Lion’s go-to guy in the passing game.

Last year, Minnesota’s 5th round pick Stefon Diggs surprised a lot of people but I’m not sold on him this year with the draft pick of Ole Miss’s Laquan Treadwell. Not to mention, I have little faith in Teddy Bridgewater to get either of them the ball consistently.

Lastly, keep your your eye on Giants rookie wide out Sterling Shepard. If Victor Cruz continues to be absent from the playing field, look for Shepard to be a strong WR 2 option.

On to the big guys, tight ends.

My top guy this year is Washington’s Jordan Reed. There has been very little turnover from that offense from the previous year where he thrived and with the 4 game suspension to Tom Brady I’m skeptical to what Gronk’s usage will look like early with Jimmy Garoppolo behind center.

The surprise at tight end last year had to be Chicago’s Zach Miller. Now, with Martellus Bennett in New England, expect Miller to become Jay Cutler’s new safety blanket.

Keep your eyes open for these guys in your drafts and good luck on your upcoming season.
