Rosters are starting to take shape and you know what that means, it’s about time to start breaking down Week 1 lines.
Week 1 is always the most fun. It feels like Christmas and your gift is a board full of NFL games to choose from. Teasers, Parlays, Round Robins, have at it. The world is yours.
The NFL odds for Week 1 definitely have some interesting games at first glance. I’ll break down a few of my favorites below. And by ‘break down a few’, I mean give you a teaser that I really like. Because that’s what the NFL season is all about. I’ll also highlight a field goal plus underdog that I think has a pretty good shot to win the game outright.
I’ll get this out of the way now, I’m heavy on the seven-point teasers. Love them, can’t get enough of them. This is 1A to get you started. If it drops to 7, I wouldn’t hate just taking the Pats straight up. But at this spot, throwing them in a teaser is a no-brainer. The defending champs, at home. Lock it up and look forward to Sunday.
NY Jets @ Buffalo (-6.5)
Yeah, might want to lock this one in now. The Jets are going to be T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E TERRIBLE next season. Like, really bad. They’re clearly tanking for that top pick and it’s hard to blame them. You’re dead in the middle and you’re in the AFC East. I love Buffalo to win by a touchdown and again, throwing them in that teaser to get you at +.5 is a nice get.
Carolina (-5.5) @ San Francisco
I like Carolina to have a bounce back season. The 49ers should still be pretty bad, even with a decent amount of intriguing young talent. This is another game that I’d be comfortable taking the favorite to cover the spread altogether but making them the third team in that teaser gets them to +1.5. That one is a no-brainer. Lock in that Pats (-.5), Bills (+.5) and Panthers (+1.5) right now. I’ll be sure to remind you in September that I told you to lock it in back in freaking June.
We need an underdog, don’t we?
Give me the Saints (+3.5) at Minnesota. We still aren’t sure who will be the QB for the Vikings but we do know that it won’t be anyone all too scary. The Saints will have the Peterson-Ingram two headed monster in the backfield along with an array of solid weapons for Drew Brees to play with. The defense, while still questionable, is improving. Sitting here today, I think the Saints win that game so getting them here is a solid bet. Ride the money line?
Yes, it’s early. But that’s half of the fun. Preseason and camp injuries can happen but that cuts both ways. For those of you out there are really ready to rock for Week 1, you can lock in your favorites now and then double up when Week 1 actually rolls around. Sounds like a trip to Vegas is in the cards.
