We’re a little over a month away from the Oscars.

Which means it’s time to post my winners. I’ve seen most everything that is nominated but if I see something that I haven’t and it changes what I’ve written here, I’ll update and repost a few days before the actual awards.

As for the big controversy, there are a few black actors I think should’ve been nominated. Michael B. Jordan in Creed, he was phenomenal. Also, Idris Elba in Beasts Of No Nation, also incredible.

The biggest snub was Ryan Coogler. He should’ve been nominated for Fruitvale Station and he definitely should’ve been nominated for Creed. He’s not a rising star anymore, he’s a star.

I wouldn’t of complained if Straight Outta Compton was nominated but I’m not complaining that it wasn’t.

Lastly, Aunt Viv nailed it on Will Smith. That was a rough accent. Hopefully Will Smith will start taking more chances and stay away from the cookie-cutter box office safety nets.

This isn’t who I think will win but rather who I would give the awards to. I’ll skip the categories that I either haven’t seen enough (Animated Feature Film) or don’t know enough about.

Lets get to the statues.

BEST PICTURE: The Revenant

IN CONTENTION: Spotlight, The Big Short

The Revenant was really good. Visually stunning and a great story. I really enjoyed the other two as well. The Big Short should be required viewing for everyone in the country.

ACTOR IN A LEADING ROLE: Leonardo DiCaprio

IN COTENTION: None.

This one isn’t close. Leo was unbelievable. The only injustice is that this will be his first Oscar rather than his fourth or fifth.

ACTRESS IN A LEADING ROLE: Brie Larson

IN CONTENTION: Jennifer Lawrence

Pretty cool story. She was really good. It sure looks like Larson is about to become much more mainstream.

ACTOR IN A SUPPORTING ROLE: Tom Hardy

IN CONTENTION: Christian Bale, Mark Ruffalo

This was the hardest one to choose. Sly won the Globe and it’d be pretty awesome if he won the Oscar but these other guys are more deserving. It came down to Hardy vs Bale and in the end, Hardy was just too good. Wouldn’t be upset if any of these three (or Sly) won but I’m hoping it’s Hardy or Bale.

ACTRESS IN A SUPPORTING ROLE: Rachel McAdams

IN CONTENTION: None.

This was much easier than it’s counterpart. I haven’t seen Carol so things could change but for now, it’s McAdams.

CINEMATOGRAPHY: The Revenant

IN CONTENTION: Mad Max: Fury Road, The Hateful Eight

This is a sneaky really difficult award to hand out. It always helps to see these on the big screen, which I didn’t do for Sicario. The Revenant was just so visually stunning that I can’t imagine the award going anywhere else.

DIRECTING: The Revenant

IN CONTENTION: The Big Short

It has to go to one of these two, both so well done. I’m kind of all in on The Revenant, so I’ll go with it. I think it’s a big night for Inarritu, DiCaprio and company.

A lot of the other awards are so unique or redundant, that it’s hard to choose a winner. But I’ll mention a few more things. I’d give Visual Effects to The Martian. I’d give Writing (Adapted Screenplay) to The Big Short while the Original Screenplay would go to Spotlight.

To stay consistent with my other awards, I’d also give The Revenant statues for Film Editing and Makeup & Hairstyling.

The Oscars are live on ABC on February 28th at 7 Eastern.
